1st January 1917 – Parks Committee

Northfield Tithe Redemption

The following report of the Town Clerk was received:-

Northfield Tithe Redemption

In pursuance of the above Minute, I have to report that altered apportionment of the tithe resulting in a charge on the properties belonging to the Committee has now been confirmed, on the 28th August last, by the Board of Agriculture and Fisheries, and is as follows:-

Part of Recreation Ground, Selly Park    )
Selly Oak Park                                           )  £14. 8. 2

I have received an intimation from the Board that the expenses of such apportionment due from the Committee amount to £6. 0. 0., and I ask for authority to make this payment.

As intimated in my report of June 24th 1915, it will be open for the Corporation to effect redemption on the lower scale of costs applicable to landowners.  As, however, the Board have intimated that in view of the desired restricted expenditure of local authorities compulsory redemption will not be imposed by them, I suggest that the voluntary redemption be also allowed to remain in abeyance during the period of the war, in order that a redemption of these properties in common with properties of the other departments may be jointly and more economically affected.

1917   Resolved:-  That the Town Clerk be asked to furnish further information in regard to this tithe.
