WEDDING – A very pretty wedding took place on Saturday last at S. Mary’s Church, Selly Oak, the contracting parties being Miss Ethel A. Horton, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. Horton, Park Lodge, Selly Oak, and Mr. J.T. Stone, E.A., Royal Navy, only son of  Mr. and Mrs. H. Stone, Tiverton Road, Bournbrook.  The bride, who looked charming, was attired in white silk and orange blossom and veil, and carried a sheaf of lilies.  She was given away by her father, and was attended by five bridesmaids, the Misses Gladys, Marjorie, Jessie, Madge and Mary Horton, sisters, who were prettily attired in blue crepe de chine and white silk, and carried sprays of pink carnations and white flowers.  Mr. J. Horton, brother of the bride acted as best man.  On leaving the church the happy couple were greeted by a guard of honour, composed of S. Wulstan’s K.R.R.S., who were in charge of Sergeant Chapman.  Presents were received from Mr. and Mrs. Essery (Portsmouth), Ernie, Chris and Frank (Portsmouth), Miss Essery (Portsmouth), Mr., Mrs. and Miss Barber (Derby), Mr. and Mrs. Tom Barber, Mr. and Mrs. Will Barber (Lincoln), Mr. and Mrs. J. Horton, Mr. H. Horton and Miss Ackford, Mr. and Mrs. Parker, Mr. and Mrs. J. Skett, Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Horton, Misses Marjorie, Jessie and Gladys Horton, Mrs. D. Davies, Mrs. White, Mr. T.S. 3rd June 1918 – Parks Committee

2334   Resolved:-  That permission be granted to Mr. Patrick Collins to hold a Fun carnival in Selly Oak Park in July next, subject to the requirements of the Superintendent being complied with, Mr. Collins agreeing to hand over to the Lady Mayoress’ Fund the proceeds of the opening night’s takings.
